Create
the Future
Michigan Technological University is a place where students from all
walks of life can get a top quality education that prepares them to
do the extraordinary: Create the future.
Why
Engineering?
Engineers work with people to improve the quality of life and help create
a sustainable future for us all. From designing computers and bridges
to developing medical equipment and controlling pollution, engineers
improve every aspect of human life.
Why
Michigan Tech?
Michigan Tech’s College of Engineering has been among the best
nationally for decades, attracting students and faculty from every state
and more than 80 countries around the world. Our students are noted
for their interest in active learning and cutting edge discovery. Our
faculty members are noted for their dedication to teaching and research,
with innovative programs that actively involve students in hands-on
learning opportunities and entrepreneurship.
Learn
by doing
At Michigan Tech, you’ll learn by doing. We integrate students
at all levels into our research, introducing them almost immediately
to the knowledge creation process. The principles learned in lecture
halls are put to work in our multimillion dollar laboratories and computer
centers. Undergraduates participate in a wide variety projects, including
building a satellite, developing alternative fuels, and researching
nanotechnology.
Enterprising
Engineers
It’s one thing to be an engineer and quite another to be an entrepreneur,
but we offer our students and opportunity to be both. It’s called
the Michigan Tech Enterprise Program, with more that 600 students participating.
Here’s how it works: teams of 20 to 30 students comprise an individual
team, and each team’s task is to solve real world engineering
and manufacturing problems submitted by our industry, business and corporate
partners. Students gain the kind of real-world, hands-on experience
that distinguishes them throughout their careers.
Our
Mission
The mission of the College of Engineering is to attract, nurture and
educate a diverse student body to be world-class scientists and engineers.
Our graduates are capable of leading and managing change—especially
in dealing with the challenges of the global marketplace in a multicultural
society. Teamwork, communications, synthesis of application and theory,
creativity and design, continuous learning, total quality engineering,
and the use of state-of-the-art technologies are critical elements in
the educational process. All are needed to succeed in the 21st century
Outstanding Career Opportunities
As an engineer, your career opportunities will be virtually unlimited.
At Michigan Tech, hundreds of employers--from state agencies to international
corporations--recruit graduates from all of our engineering programs.
Our placement rate is 94 percent among graduating students. And when
asked if they had to do it over again, 95% of alumni said they would
attend Michigan Tech, according to a 2003 Stamats study.
