Tim Schulz, dean of engineering, has been elected a fellow in the Optical Society of America (OSA) "for pioneering the use of modern statistical-estimation theory in inverse imaging problems, including the invention of a highly successful imaging modality: model-based multiframe blind deconvolution."
OSA fellows, members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics, are nominated by current fellows. Final selections are made by a committee appointed by the board of directors.
Schulz's research programs have been supported by NSF, AFOSR, DARPA, the Space Telescope Science Institute, the Army Night Vision Laboratory and other government agencies.
Schulz was named the dean of engineering in July, after chairing the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 1999 to 2007. He joined the Michigan Tech faculty in 1992.
Schulz is also a fellow of the International Society for Optical Engineering. He currently serves as associate editor for the Journal of the Optical Society of America A and was previously associate editor for Applied Optics and IEEE Transactions on Image Processing.
The OSA is the prime optical society in the world, and its membership totals more than 14,000 individuals from over 81 countries. Since its founding in 1916, OSA has had 29 Nobel Prize-winning members. |
