Started in 2005, the
Engineers Without Borders chapter at Michigan Tech
is off to a great start. With more than 75 members from 13 majors,
this group seeks to partner with communities on sustainable engineering
solutions to difficult problems.
In February, nineteen
of the chapter members traveled to the EWB National Conference.
It was the largest chapter representation among the 120 student
chapters. The Michigan Tech chapter won the EWB National Award
for Chapter Development (sponsored by IEEE) in their first year.
They recently finished their first project, a septic system at
an elementary school in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, shown in photos at
left. The next community assessment team will go to Guatemala
in early April.
