The National
Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) in collaboration with
the Memorial Union Building & the MUB
Board presented the 2nd Poetry Slam "Reloaded"
Contest. The event was Hosted by Lisa Grayson and Eric McDonald.
Proving that
Engineers -- and many non-engineering Michigan Tech students --
do have a lot of talent:
Contest Winners:
Best Written Poetry: Madie Xiong
Best Performed Poetry (tie): Raj Mohan and Madie Xiong
1st Place Performance Act: Original Rap by Eric Warren
2nd Place Performance Act: Song "Nobody knows you" by
singer Alan Tan and guitarist Leong Hai Sheng
3rd Place Performance Act: Song: Lemonade by Joe Kovach
The event was
organized by Lola Oyebola, and Vincent Iduma and the NSBE execs/members.
The DJ for was Elmo Joseph. The judges were Betty Chavis, Sylvia
Matthews, Roxanne Gay, Shalini Suryanarayana, Heinrich Moatala Muvi-Tjikalepo
and Rod Barton.
The National
Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student
managed organizations in the country. NSBE's goal is to increase
the number of culturally responsible Black engineers to achieve
academically, succeed professionally, and to impact the community
positively. The MTU chapter is one of 248 NSBE chapters nationally
on college and university campuses. Membership is open to all.
