Heippa Hei!!
The
Finnish comedy and musical troupe 'Nyt Naura'
('Now Laugh') performs comic reminiscing, hilarious
folk songs and lyrics (flavored entirely in English...accented
with a dose of Finnish spice) that will tickle your
funny bone.
They
were a big hit at the Finn Grand Fest at
Marquette in 2005 and in Ashtabula, OH. 2007 and Scandinavian Fest in Astoria Oregon 2006 & 2007.
These
three Michigan Upper Peninsula 'Yoopers' of Finnish
ancestry have presented over 100 performances thus far.
Troupe
member Sherry Saarinen, a secretary for the Michigan
Tech College of Engineering, resident of Quincy
Hill at the top of Hancock, says she is "so
excited about being invited to several states
to perform. Including, Astoria, Oregon. (location
of the next Finnish Festival)." At their
performance at Finn Grand Fest, 600 people at
the concert gave them a standing ovation.
They
were filmed and interviewed by Finnish Reporters and
TV personnel. They also performed live on the WLUCTV.com
world-wide web with Carl Pellonpaa during a taping of
the FinnGrand Festival.
In
addition to their humorous lyrics, sisters Sherry and
Kris are accomplished poets and have written beautiful
verse for every occasion. They also wrote some of the
selected verses for the opening ceremony at Lake View
Arena for Finn Grand Fest attended by over 5,000.
Sherry said, "it was so moving to hear them chant
the verses I wrote... that actually was more meaningful
to me than doing the skits, etc. . how exciting this
Finnish show biz is!"
The
National Finlandia Foundation sponsored the Suomalainen
Sisters on their trip to Finn Fest in July 2006
where they performed at Suomi Hall, Astoria OR
where they also put on a show at Wet
Dog Cafe and at Naselle
WA.
