Sankofa is a symbolic Ghanian expression represented by a bird whose head turns back looking towards the past.
The Sankofa African Dance & Drum Ensemble is an educational touring music and dance group that retrieves the cultural essences of the past and brings them into the present. Sankofa presents dance and theatre works expressing the dynamic presence of African culture in America.
Clyde Alafiju Morgan is an associate professor of African Dance at SUNY Central, Brockport, New York. He is artistic director of Sankofa African Dance & Drum Ensemble.
Khalid Abdul N'Faly Saleem is African music specialist and music director of Sankofa has performed around the world with numerous dance companies and served as Faculty at Duke Univ. and the American Dance Festival.
Ms. Yendi Phillips is a graduate student from Jamaica very skilled in her native dance.
Ms. Michelle With is completing her master's thesis in dancing.
Ms. Molly Christie is a graduate student in the Dance Department at SUNY Brockport, New York.
